Alright Ladies and Gents, this is it.
Required Music to listen to during farewell address:
As of now, the honorable Sir James Moller will move from Vice President to President, per our constitution, as I am finally stepping down from my Presidency.
For those of you who do not know, this is because I am flying to Hong Kong in a few weeks, and will be there for the entire semester, plus some. Don't worry, I will be back in the Fall of 2014, but I will not be President of our beloved eSports club upon my return. I am also not sure how involved I will be able to be.
First, a few logistical things. There will still be standard elections in the Spring to elect or re-elect all officer and team leader positions. Also, there should be an election when you get back from break to replace the now vacant Vice Presidency.
A year and a month ago, to the day, I and a small and merry band of misfits huddled together a few nerds and called it an eSports Club. Now, a short time later, we are one of the largest and most active clubs on campus, and have by far, the best shirts (Thanks to Alex Natavio!) It has been awesome seeing my beautiful young butterfly-child of an eSports Club grow so much. Huge shout out to those who were there from the very beginning, Jack Loew, Kevin Vertefuillelelelele, Daniel Conner, Daniel Vu, Daniel Johnson, Damien, Freddie, there are so many its hard to remember them all. This club would have gotten nowhere without each of you (you know who you are).
I have several regrets too. By George one day I swear we will have a console division that isn't shameful to talk about to newcomers, and maybe one day we will dispel the notion that this is a League of Legends only club. Also maybe one day we will actually have regular meetings. I wish I could have done all these things before I headed out of the Oval Gameroom, but alas, twas not time.
Don't worry, I'm almost done with the soap box, just a few more things.
First, to the Oldies of the club who have been around for a while, please oh please keep sticking with us and pushing us forward. You guys have stepped up in a glorious way and done a lot of good for a lot of people. We will need much more of that in the future if we are to prove that eSports isn't just a fad, its a family.
Second, to all those who I see around at events all the time but aren't in any leadership positions. You guys have been around to things, you know eSports, and you know what kind of community we are. As much as I would like to think the whole world revolves around me, the truth is, after I and the other old-timer eSporters are graduated and gone, you guys will be the only ones left. Will we just fizzle out and die after the old guard heads out? I hope not. Many people have put in hours to help create an accepting community to bring gamers together. Please oh please new guys, step up, take your place in the history of eSports, and make USC eSports a name gamers everywhere can cheer for. We need you.
And third, to everyone: Remember one thing. We are a family. I know, I know, people say that a lot about a lot of things, but if eSports isn't one where it's applicable I don't know what is. Sure we all have that crazy uncle who is really weird (Dylan Drake), but we love them anyway, because they are one of us. At the end of the day, no matter what game you play, no matter how you look, no matter how you act, we only care about one thing: The Love of the Games.
Now I pass the torch to you. Good luck and have fun my friends. Stay in touch.
